Science helps our understanding of the world around us. It is the process of gaining knowledge through study or practice.

At secondary school level science is divided into 3 components; mainly Basic Science, Biology and Chemistry.

Basic Science is a continuation of the courses from Year 7 and  8. It provides a foundation of scientific concepts and skills for the study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Year 11. The course integrates the separate sciences, but the amount of integration varies with different strands. It is inevitable that some strands are almost pure such as Chemistry, Physics and Biology while others are combinations. This programme should better prepare students for changing emphasis in fifth and sixth form courses.

The study of matter and its interaction with other matter and energy and the basics of how things work is the study of Chemistry. Chemistry explains the world around us.

Biology is the study of living things. It provides information on the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution of living organisms. There are many branches of Biology and most of it is integrated in the different strands that the students study from Year 11 right up to Year 13. It assists us to understand how living things work and how they function and interact at different levels.
